Times of changes: the refundation of the PRI and the Mexican party system in the period 2000-2012
Abstract
In this article we intend to carry out an analysis of the changes that occurred in the Mexican political party system caused by the rupture of the hegemony of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), after losing the presidential elections of the year 2000 in the hands of the National Autonomist Party (PAN), defeat that was due to both internal and external factors to the party, and the implications of his return to power in 2012 with the victory of candidate Enrique Peña Nieto, where to return to power the party had to restructure and shed old habits. The research is carried out mainly, from the reading made of the work of the Italian author Giovanni Sartori: "Party and party systems" (1992).
